The best essences for hedges and flowerbeds: Abelia floribunda prostrata
- 02 Giu 2025

Abelia floribunda prostrata is a flowering shrub with a more limited development than other Abelias.
It is an evergreen or semi-deciduous shrub with a drooping habit, with arching branches, which develops glossy dark green, ovate leaves up to 5 cm long and very fragrant, 2 cm long, 2-5-lobed, white tinged pink tubular flowers that bloom from May to October. Cultivated for the compactness and elegance of its foliage and for its generous and prolonged flowering, it is suitable for hedges, borders or as an isolated specimen. Very hardy, it requires low maintenance and should be cultivated in sunny positions; in colder climates it should be grown against a south-facing wall, keeping it sheltered from dry, cold winds.
The leaves are bronze-coloured to become bright dark green in summer and purple-red in autumn-winter. The abundant white blossom, with slight pink tones, lasts from summer until autumn when the flowers take on a darker pink hue. In our latitudes, however, Abelia floribunda prostrata may shed its foliage, either completely or partially, in particularly harsh winters if not exposed in a sunny location sheltered from cold currents.
